Smart trainers for mountain bikes (Boost 12Γ148)
A modern mountain bike needs a trainer that accepts 12Γ148 mm Boost thru-axle and a freehub body matching its drivetrain (SRAM XD or Shimano Micro Spline for 12-speed). 24 of 30 trainers in our database support Boost β so MTB compatibility is now near-universal, but confirm the adapter is included and pick the right freehub.
Boost thru-axle, explained
Boost spacing is 148 mm wide β 6 mm more than the 142 mm road/gravel thru-axle β so it needs a Boost-specific end-cap adapter. Most current direct-drive trainers offer one, included or optional. Older 135 mm quick-release MTBs mount in the standard cups instead.

You also need the right freehub
Boost only solves the axle. To fit your cassette you also need the matching freehub body: Shimano Micro Spline for 12-speed Shimano XTR/XT/SLX/Deore, or SRAM XD for SRAM Eagle. Check which bodies each trainer offers on the XD vs XDR and identify-your-freehub guides.
