How do I know my rear axle standard?

A removable lever skewer is quick-release (130 mm road or 135 mm MTB). A bolt-through axle you unscrew is a thru-axle, almost always 12 mm diameter and 142 mm (road/gravel) or 148 mm Boost (MTB). The width is usually printed near the dropout.

What does “fits with parts” mean?

The trainer can fit your bike, but you need to buy something first — typically a thru-axle adapter the trainer doesn’t include, a different freehub body for your cassette, or a spacer (an XD cassette on an XDR body needs a 1.85 mm spacer).

Does cassette speed have to match the trainer?

The cassette you fit must match your drivetrain speed, not the trainer — the trainer just needs the right freehub body. An 11-speed bike needs an 11-speed cassette on the trainer. Virtual-shifting trainers (Zwift Hub One) skip this entirely.

Why are some trainers “not supported”?

Either the trainer doesn’t support your axle standard (e.g. no Boost adapter), or no freehub body exists for your cassette type (e.g. a Campagnolo drivetrain on a trainer that only offers HG/XD/XDR bodies).

Frequently asked questions

Look at your cassette: Shimano/SRAM 8–11-speed sits on an HG body; a SRAM cassette with a 10-tooth smallest cog and no lockring is XD (MTB) or XDR (road); a Shimano 12-speed MTB cassette is Micro Spline; a Campagnolo cassette uses a Campagnolo body. If unsure, your bike or wheel spec sheet lists the freehub standard.
